What a wonderful question; not uncommon at all. As we move through this world experiencing all it's grand pleasures we collect toxins and waste from outside influences. Whether through inhalation or exhalation of said substances. This is where the muscle contracts or shortens for a visible raise or hardening underneath the skin to occur.
As a result our body system cannot keep up with the influx of waste/toxins coming into our bodies without enough ratio of release/flushing of the muscular tissue. In turn all other systems of the body being inadvertently affected such as skeletal, cardiovascular, neurological, endocrine, & respiratory. So, with everyday repetitive activities lactic acid and toxins will build in our system. We must be the captain of our own ships to determine if we're flushing these toxins at the proper ratio to building them.
I don't just say this because I'm a therapist and want business, but massage therapy is key when trying to relieve a knot. Manuel pressure is the key ingredient to relieve the discomfort a knot can bring. I don't say massage therapy loosely; I mean corrective, detailed, moreless medical massage therapy. Strokes with intention, a therapist who is licensed, and cares. Some say well that can get expensive. So, I respond with options of self-therapy.
